Lasith Malinga became the fastest Sri Lankan to take 250 One-Day International (ODI) wickets. Malinga achieved this feat when he completed a five-wicket haul to script a 12-run win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2014 at Fatullah. Malinga took 163 ODIs to reach the mark, surpassing Muttiah Muralitharan who did it in 174 ODIs. Malinga is overall sixth on the list of the fastest to reach the 250 ODI wickets feat.

Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq is the fastest to reach the 250 wickets mark.  As far as Sri Lankans are concerned, apart from Muralitharan and Malinga, Chaminda Vaas too has 250 wickets. He took 204 ODIs.

Malinga, before this match had 245 wickets to his name. In the first match of the Asia Cup, Malinga was carted for few runs early on. But the pacer with a slingy action rattled the Pakistanis picking five wickets in a span of just 14 deliveries. He was adjudged man of the match for his match-winning efforts.
