West Indies captain Darren Sammy has revealed that their key bowler Sunil Narine may require scans on a leg injury he suffered during West Indies’ 27 run win over England in the first T20I at Bridgetown, which has seriously jeopardized the spinner’s prospects of playing in the ICC World T20 to be held in Bangladesh in March.

When asked about the importance of Narine in the West Indies squad, Sammy replied: Narine is world class and [Samuel] Badree is one of the most economical spinners in the world,” said Sammy. “Myself and Ravi Rampaul come in and chip in with a couple of overs but we build the innings around Narine and Badree.”

“Whatever the ground and pitch, Twenty20 cricket has shown spinners are the most effective. If you have a good fast bowler who can bowl a good two overs at the start and good yorkers at the end you are lucky but most of the time, the spinners are key players,” concluded Sammy who feels spinners are an important element in T20 cricket.
